Tasks of Namibia ProKind e.V. is to support vulnerable children in Namibia Financing of medical assistance to children and youths Financing of medical assistance should be organized directly in response to billing of general practitioners, specialists or hospitals. In Namibia medical assistance to children is limited to an insufficient minimum. Further treatment and after-care is inadequate. HIV-AIDS tests for children are non-existent. The association „Namibia ProKind e.V.“ will render it possible, that sick or infected children or youths can be treated as private patients by general practitioners, specialists or hospitals. In practice social workers of the namibian Ministry of Health will identify those children of the various nursery schools, who then will be checked by general practitioners in Omaruru or other namibian towns. The general practitioner decides which children need further treatment through specialists or hospitals. The association „Namibia ProKind e.V.“ intends to meet the costs for the treatment by doctors and hospitals, for the transport of the patients to doctors and hospitals, for medication and, if necessary, for after-care treatment. Another emphasis shall lie in the psychological care for raped girls aged mostly 2 to 10 years. The perpetrators are mostly from the immediate family of the victims, who commit this crime in response to „witch doctors“ recommendations, who tell the perpetrators, that the crime would free them from HIV-AIDS. To minimize the girls trauma, a medical and psychological support is necessary, which will be paid for by „Namibia ProKind e.V." Support of projects aimed at the care of children in pre-schools There are hundreds of nursery schools, which were partly founded by mothers. Their financial means are generally insufficient to get materials to enable the children to learn. Also the training of the persons in charge is not equivalent to that of a nursery teacher and, furthermore, these persons are not able to teach the children Namibia’s official language, English. „Namibia ProKind e.V.“ plans to support those existing private nursery schools by providing teaching materials and toys. Suitable teachers shall be given the opportunity to improve their knowledge and methodology by attending educational courses in Windhoek. The costs for the courses, transport and accommodation will be borne by „Namibia ProKind e.V.“ For those nursery schools about to be foundet „Namibia ProKind e.V.“ will provide and finance building materials like corrugated iron sheets, cement, bricks, piping, fencing, sanitary items and any other objects necessary for the construction. If parents, guardians or single mothers or fathers are unable to pay the nursery school fees, actually 4,50 Euro per month, „Namibia ProKind e.V.“ will pay the required fee directly to the nursery school affected. Most of the children in those nursery schools receive insufficient nourishment and are inadequately dressed. „Namibia ProKind e.V.“ intends to buy necessary clothing in Namibia. Due to unemployment and sickness many parents are forced to send their children to nursery schools without food. „Namibia ProKind e.V.“ plans to improve that situation in direct cooperation with the nursery schools by financing of food stuffs. Support of projects aimed at job-training Recently, „COSDEC“, a parastatal training institution was founded in Namibia, whose aim it is to train youths within one year in the basic skills of a job. Many, however, cannot afford the monthly fees for the course of actually 20,00 Euro per month. „Namibia ProKind e.V.“ intends to finance the course, accommodation and food for the duration of the course. The selection of suitable candidates will take place in cooperation with the local primary schools.
